BTS‘s Jungkook recently sat down with Apple Music for an in-depth interview about his album Golden.
GOLDEN‘s release has been anticipated since Jungkook released his very first single, shocking many with its somewhat explicit nature. The same shock also came with the release of “3D,” but it gave fans a better idea of what to expect from the album.
“I’ll Be F*ckin’ You”: BTS’s Jungkook Shocks ARMYs With Sexually Explicit Solo Debut “Seven”
When looking at GOLDEN as a whole, the theme of love and relationships can be seen from the innuendo-laden “Standing Next To You” to the heartbreakingly honest “Hate You.”
The album’s subject was brought up by interviewer Zane Lowe, who asked Jungkook about the change in lyrics seen in “SEVEN” and how he decided he wanted to be more “honest and unfiltered way.”
Jungkook began by first saying that none of the songs are his “personal stories,” a nod at one of the criticisms of the album netizens have had.
Well, from “SEVEN” and up to GOLDEN, none of the songs are actually my personal stories.
— Jungkook
He continued, saying that love is the most universal feeling, and he wanted to express that throughout the album.
Actually, they’re all love songs, which I felt were the most universal feeling. So I wanted to work on a lot of these good songs that fit within that kind of theme. And so you’ll notice in the album there’s a continuum of that love theme.

Jungkook also showed off his awareness of the trends in music and admitted to knowing that this would be the time for him to “sing lyrics like that” and to change up his image a bit, even though he had concerns.
This is a very important time for me. But as a young artist this would be the time for me to sing lyrics like that and I needed to change up my image a little bit. Honestly, even for me it was a challenge and I was concerned about the lyrics myself.
— Jungkook
GOLDEN definitely shows off Jungkook’s versatility and growth as an artist!
