The 2023 Global Citizen Festival took place in New York City’s Central Park last night, with captivating performances from Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ms. Lauryn Hill, BTS‘s Jungkook, Anitta, Conan Gray, D-Nice, Sofia Carson, and Stray Kids‘ 3RACHA.
BTS’s Jungkook was confirmed as a co-headliner for the festival earlier this month and turned the event into his own personal concert when he took the stage, inviting special guest, American rapper and singer Latto, to perform their song “SEVEN” and even surprised the audience with the announcement of his upcoming track “3D,” featuring American rapper Jack Harlow.
The BTS maknae earned attention even before he took the stage when he participated in a pre-show interview with South African actress and human rights activist Nomzamo Mbatha, who is also a Global Citizen ambassador.
In behind-the-scenes footage recently released, BTS’s Jungkook announced to Nomzamo Mbatha that his “English is bad,” to which the actress comforted the BTS member by saying her English “is terrible,” while they both politely disagreed with one another.
While Jungkook waited for the interview to start, Nomzamo Mbatha continued to sweetly encourage him, explaining that she feels her “Zulu is better, which is what [she speaks] in South Africa,” while again reassuring Jungkook that everything would be fine during the interview and that it wouldn’t be airing live, which seemed to calm Jungkook’s nerves about interviewing in English.
The two talented stars adorably shook out their nerves before the camera began rolling, and BTS’s Jungkook was a natural once filming began.
As the behind-the-scenes footage circulated, ARMYs shared their appreciation for the award-winning South African actress and thanked Nomzamo Mbatha for supporting and encouraging Jungkook.
