The members of NCT have held multiple live broadcasts that were interrupted by sasaengs (obsessive fans) who illegally obtained their phone numbers and kept calling them.
It reached the point where the group’s leader Taeyong even pleaded with these “fans” to stop. Unfortunately, they’re not the only ones dealing with the issue, especially as SM Entertainment artists.
On an episode of actor Jang Geuk Suk‘s self-titled show, he invited his close friend Super Junior‘s Heechul and mentioned something so unusual that he claimed it was “nonsense.”
Holding out his phone, Jang Geuk Suk showed Heechul that he was saved under nine different numbers in his contacts. The idol explained why.
Every time Heechul changed his phone number, a sasaeng would call him immediately to call him out for it. He revealed, “Usually when I went to a mobile carrier and changed my number, someone would contact me right away. ‘Heechul, you changed your number.’”
It resulted in Heechul changing his phone number so often that Jang Geun Suk saw at least nine of them. He said, “Yes, from the extreme fans. So I had no choice but to change my number frequently.”
Since Super Junior debuted eighteen years ago, Heechul and Jang Geun Suk were both surprised that these extreme fans were still working so hard to invade his privacy.
Jang Geuk Suk: They still do that these days.
Heechul: I know. I find this so surprising. There are so many good-looking and young idols. Seeing that they still love me so passionately is a little bit embarrassing now.
Nearing twenty years in his idol career, forty-year-old Heechul still can’t escape those obsessive fans.
See the veteran idol expose how extreme sasaengs still are, no matter what generation they’re from.
