While the media had claimed the woman in question was “a non-celebrity from England,” netizens soon discovered her identity to be actress turned language teacher Katy Louise Saunders (also known as Kate Saunders).
Although their relationship was just made public, they were never really hiding it. During Song Joong Ki’s Daesang acceptance speech at the APAN Star Awards, he thanked “Katy, Marla, Maya, and Antes,” which includes her first name as well as her dogs’ names, according to a previous Facebook post.
Also, while Saunders was born in London, England, she is of British and Columbian descent, according to her online biographies. Yet, she relocated to Italy at a young age. She made her acting debut in 2002 and acted in many Italian films, television shows, and occasionally American, but she stopped in 2018.
It’s curious how Katy Louise Saunders and Song Joong Ki met and fell in love. Reportedly, the actors were introduced by an acquaintance last year, and their relationship soon developed due to mutual sympathy. Since then, they have been spotted traveling and attending weddings together.
While it’s hard to say exactly how the two connected, there is an unexpected connection between Song Joong Ki and his girlfriend.
As mentioned, though Katy Louise Saunders is English, she has lived in Italy for many years. One of Song Joong Ki’s most famous roles is that of the Korean Italian mafia lawyer in the K-Drama Vincenzo.
At the time Song Joong Ki had promoted the drama, he revealed he had not yet visited before or during filming despite the scenes set in Italy.
We can’t help but wonder if he has since visited Italy, considering Saunders is based there. Yet, that is not all. While Song Joong Ki graduated from Sungkyunkwan University, Vincenzo studied law at Bocconi University, a private university in Milan, Italy.
